Support for the drafting of laws
The Office for Legislation of the Department of Justice and Home Affairs deals with tasks on behalf of all the Departments of the Government Council. It gives advice in terms of methodology regarding law-making projects and checks draft enactments of the Departments for their intelligibility, logic and terminology, systematic approach, etc.
The aim is to improve the quality of the Canton's law-making – thus explaining the intention of the rules and avoiding disputes.
On 21 December 2005, the Government Council adopted new directives on the formal design of legal enactments. They apply from 1 January 2006 onward. The directives can be ordered as a printout from the KDMZ - the Cantonal Printed Matter and Supplies Office - or it can be downloaded from this page.
